John Redmond was a singer, music publisher, and occasional lyricist. With James Cavanaugh and Frank Weldon he wrote “The Man with the Mandolin” (1939) and two carols, “Christmas in Killarney” and “Thirty-Two Feet and Eight Little Tails (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen).” A collaboration with Cavanaugh and Nat Simon produced “The Gaucho Serenade” in 1939. In 1940 the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra with vocalist Frank Sinatra recorded “You’re Breaking My Heart All Over Again,” written with Cavanaugh and Arthur Altman. Redmond is best remembered for his contribution to “I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart,” written with Duke Ellington, Henry Nemo and Irving Mills in 1938.
