Irene Higgenbotham was born into a musical family in Massachusetts. By the age of 13 she had composed her first song, and at 15 she was performing as a concert pianist. Her most famous composition, “Good Morning Heartache” (1945), was a collaboration with Dan Fisher and lyricist Ervin Drake. Many of her other songs enjoyed popularity in their day, and her charming “This Will Make You Laugh” was recorded by Nat “King” Cole and is included in several of his compilations. Guitarist Oscar Moore recorded it as did Carmen McRae and guitarists Bucky and John Pizzarelli.
