George A. Norton is little known beyond the fact that he added lyrics to a melody called “Melancholy,” written by Ernie Burnett in 1911. The tune became “My Melancholy Baby” and has remained a favorite over some 90 years. It has been recorded by numerous artists such as Teddy Wilson, Sonny Rollins, and Frank Sinatra.
