Ken Casey is painted as quite a versatile character in his biographies: a child actor, a musician of multiple talents, a successful businessman, and a patriot. He led his own band on radio and record, wrote stage scores, headed up publishing and theatrical companies, and was honored by the US Navy for his radio work on “Winnie the Wave.” He also wrote a song for Stewart Air Force Base and the song used by the Community Chest Drive. Although he apparently lived most of his life on the east coast, many of his popular songs displayed an affinity for the West. But he will be best remembered for his contribution to the creation of “Sweet Georgia Brown” (1925) with Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard. The song was an early hit and has continued in popularity, becoming famous as the theme song for the internationally known Harlem Globe Trotters.
