Will J. Harris wrote the lyrics for Victor Young’s “Sweet Sue (Just You)” in 1928. The song was recorded by a variety of artists including Django Reinhardt, Ruby Braff, Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, actor Jack Lemmon, and even Tiny Tim. Johnny Hamp’s Kentucky Serenaders recorded Harris’ “Pretty Cinderella” in 1926, and ASCAP credits him with half a dozen other tunes but none attained the popularity of his effort with Young. Little is known about Harris other than he was a vaudeville director and producer.
